Pastor's Class PDF Print E-mail

Faith and Film Series: Immigration Immigration has been a controversial subject at various points in our country's history, and the arguments and rhetoric have been heating up again recently.  Ian's Pastor's Class this fall will feature a film series that explores these issues in a nuanced way.  These four award-winning films (one drama and 3 documentaries) will help us learn what motivates people to enter our country illegally, what their stories and lives are like, and what effect their presence has on the American communities to which they move.  After each film there will be an opportunity for safe, respectful sharing of viewpoints and discussion of the issues in light of our faith.  These are public events and provide great opportunities to invite a friend!  Thursday evenings, 7-9 pm (9:30 pm on the first one) Oct 7, Oct 21, Nov 4, and Nov 18.

Donation Garden Project PDF Print E-mail

"The outrage of hunger amidst plenty will not be solved by 'experts' somewhere. It will only be solved when people like you and me decide to act." ~ Frances Moore Lappe

The Donation Garden at Holy Faith Church is a 800 square foot garden dedicated solely to growing fresh, organic vegetables to be donated to hungry families in Saline and Ann Arbor.  Holy Faith will participate in the 2010 Faith and Food program sponsored by the Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice.  As need determines, food may also be donated to Saline Area Social Services and Mill Pond Senior Center, as well as members of our church community.

In 2009, Holy Faith was one of fifteen congregations participating in the Food and Faith program, producing over 3500 lbs of fresh produce for the hungry in Washtenaw County. Last year, our garden produced 620 pounds of food, all donated to Food Gatherers.

In addition to bolstering the efforts of organizations that are already fighting hunger in our community, the garden provides wonderful opportunities for volunteers to participate in our mission, get some fresh air and sunshine, learn gardening skills and have fun with kids and friends.  We welcome you to join in!

Our first planning meeting for this growing season –

Wednesday, March 10 at 7pm

Gardeners and non-gardeners alike are invited to attend and share your comments and insights into what went well – or perhaps not so well – last year, and  participate in planning this year's garden.  Topics include what to plant and when, resources required, garden management including watering, harvest and distribution of food.

A harvest meal with veggies from the garden will provide our church community nourishment as part of the Harvest Festival in September.

Garden Name Contest

Not sure gardening is your thing?  We still need your help!  The Holy Faith donation garden needs a name!

Please submit your garden name no later than Tuesday, March 9 to Rick Wales, Judie Wales or Leslie Sievert.

The garden name will be announced Sunday, March 14.
